What is Yoga?

Yoga is an age-old science from India, which has been passed on from generation to generation.  In the West, we tend to focus on Yoga postures and breathing techniques helping to connect body and mind.  Through the practice of yoga, we gain increased all-round health, flexibility, strength and balance.

Hatha Yoga

Our Hatha Yoga is a gentle class working with the body to increase flexibility, improve strength and harness overall balance.  By learning to connect your breath and movement, you are able to link body and mind.

Hatha Yoga: Suitable for all levels especially beginners.

The class lasts 75 minutes.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic flowing sequence of yoga postures (asana), resulting in calmness and clarity.  Together with the breath and bandhas (energy locks), it maximizes body tone, flexibility, strength, balance and helps to detoxify the body.  The practitioner experiences the postures in a dynamic flow and the vinyasas (movement with the breath) thread all the poses together which gives the whole practice its flow, grace and momentum.  By moving through the vinyasas the body is realigned in preparation for the next posture and the body’s heat is increased.

The ashtanga vinyasa yoga system was discovered and put together by Sri Krishnamacharya and his student Sri Pattabhi Jois in the early 1930s. Sri Pattabhi Jois later became the principal proponent and master of the system. The practice may be as old as 5000 years, but it must be looked on as a growing, living knowledge and art.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga: Suitable for all levels, but some knowledge of yoga is advisable.

The class lasts 90 minutes.
